How to Care and Maintain Your New Cabinets

Congratulations on Your New cabinets from Aladdin Carpet!

We're so glad you chose Aladdin Carpet to help bring your vision to life. The cabinets we offer at Aladdin Carpet are designed and built to handle everyday use — but like anything of quality, a little care goes a long way. With a few simple habits and precautions, your cabinetry will stay beautiful for years to come.

General Cabinet Care tips

Natural Aging

Wood naturally darkens over time — this is part of its charm. However, areas exposed to direct sunlight may darken faster. While you can’t prevent this, being aware of it can help you plan your lighting and window treatments accordingly.

Dimensional Changes

Wood is a natural material that expands and contracts with changes in humidity and temperature. This may cause slight swelling, shrinking, or shifting over the seasons. To minimize these effects, we recommend keeping your home’s temperature between 60°F–80°F and humidity levels between 30%–55%. Conditions outside this range may result in cracked joints, shrinking panels, or damage to door components.

How to Care for Different Cabinet Materials

Stained & Painted Cabinets

  • Clean with a soft, lint-free cloth using mild soap and warm water.
  • Dry surfaces immediately with a clean cloth.
  • Wipe spills, splatters, and water spots as soon as they happen to prevent damage.
  • Avoid using dishcloths or sponges that may contain grease or harsh detergents.
  • Never use bleach, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Avoid scouring pads, steel wool, or powdered cleaners.
  • Keep small kitchen appliances away from cabinet surfaces where heat is vented.
  • Don’t drape wet towels or clothes over cabinet doors — excess moisture can cause permanent damage.

Laminate Cabinets (Matte & High-Gloss)

  • Remove protective film after installation or within 6 months to avoid adhesive residue.
  • Wait 24 hours after removing the film before cleaning.
  • Use a microfiber cloth dampened with a mild soap solution (max 1%) for cleaning.
  • Never spray cleaning products directly onto the surface.
  • Always dry immediately after cleaning to avoid water damage.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals such as solvents, alcohol, or ammonia.

High-Gloss Acrylic Cabinets

  • Keep panels out of direct sunlight and don’t store outdoors.
  • Use only a damp microfiber cloth or chamois with mild soap and water.
  • Never dry-wipe acrylic finishes — it may scratch or dull the surface.
  • Avoid acetone, abrasive cloths (including paper towels), and strong cleaners.

Accessory Kits & Hardware

  • Clean plastic or wire inserts with mild soap and water.
  • Avoid abrasive sponges, solvents, or harsh chemical agents.
  • Clean drawer and door handles using only mild soap and water.

Things That Can Damage Your Cabinets

  • Humidity Extremes: Too much moisture causes wood to swell; too little causes it to shrink and crack.
  • Moisture Exposure: Always wipe spills immediately. Pay special attention around the sink, dishwasher, and countertop edges
  • Wet Towels & Mops: Avoid draping wet towels over cabinet doors. And when mopping, make sure your mop isn’t soaking wet to prevent water damage at the base or toe kick.
  • Hot Appliances: Don't place appliances that vent heat directly under upper cabinets.
  • Drawer Misuse & Overloading: Limit drawer contents to 75 lbs or less to prevent sagging or hardware issues. Distribute weight evenly within each drawer. Never stand or step on drawer.
