Basic installation cost and other labor costs may vary depending on the type of the wood and installation method. The wider the planks the higher the cost. For general purposes the basic installation cost for a 2 1/4 x 3/4 solid hardwood strip varies from $2.50 to $3.50 per sq ft. Additional labor cost depends on the type of floor preparation.

For example, to remove ceramic tile, the cost could may vary between $3.00 and $15.00. Yes, it could be that high however, the extreme case is very rare. One instance could be where ceramic tile is installed on an exterior sheathing plywood or OSB which is nailed and glued using contact cement to the original substrate.   • If considering squared edge solid hardwood, be sure to have the substrate leveled to avoid over lip at the end of the strips or planks.
