Cleaning and Maintenance of Laminate Flooring

Laminate Flooring > Cleaning and Maintenance of Laminate Flooring

Though laminate flooring is known to be resistant to stains and scratches, no floor is ever invincible. It is still best to follow measures to protect your laminate flooring. Here are some tips on cleaning and maintenance of laminate flooring to keep it looking new for years.

Cleaning of Laminate Flooring

  1. Use a soft brush mop or slightly damp mop to clean or wipe your laminate flooring. Do not soak the floor as this may cause the edges of the laminate boards to expand.
  2. Immediately wipe and clean spills to avoid leaving a difficult stain to clean.
  3. To clean stains, use a mop with household ammonia (1/3 ammonia to 1 gallon warm water) or a mixture of vinegar and water (1 cup vinegar to 1 gallon warm water). It is highly recommended to use the laminate flooring manufacturer’s cleaner, but not necessary.
  4. Do not use detergent-based cleaners or soap to clean your laminate flooring.
  5. Do not use sand paper, steel wool, or scouring powder.
  6. Do not use polish or any wax-based products for your laminate flooring as these will make it look dull and leave a residue on the surface.

Protection of Laminate Flooring

  1. Use felt protectors for legs of furniture to protect your laminate flooring from surface scratches.
  2. Lift rather than slide furniture when moving them across the floor.
  3. Place area rugs inside exterior doorway to trap stones or gravel that can track on shoes.
